Hanoi, November 29, 2013 – NEC Vietnam Co,. LTD announced to share the plan for disasters response and relief operations in Vietnam, using telecommunications and ICT solutions. On this occasion, NEC also participates in and discusses its technology at the workshop on “ICT Applications on Mitigating Natural Disaster” organized by the International Telecommunication Union, Ministry of Information and Communication, Vietnam and Viettel Group in Hanoi on November 28 and 29.

During the recent typhoon season from July until November, over 100 thousand households in Central region in Vietnam have suffered from floods. The financial damage can be counted to billions of Vietnam Dong. In Quang Ngai province, flood water rose above the previous peak in 1999. According to Vietnam Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in Asia, Vietnam is one of the countries which suffer heavy losses from natural disasters. There are at least six storms a year and more then 70% of the population live in areas at risk of flooding.

At the workshop “ICT Applications on Mitigating Natural Disaster”, Mr. Susumu Tanaka, Chief Manager of the Public Business Planning Division, NEC Corporation, presented the solutions that NEC provides to respond to disasters and disaster relief operations, emergency communications and international framework for coordination and cooperation in the aftermath of disasters.

NEC’s solutions cover the various sensors required in gathering information on disasters and emergencies, and can supply and integrate the entire disaster management. Data gathered from observation such as surveillance cameras, water level gauges, rain gauges, and seismometers can be fed into a command centre that is able to obtain and process the data in a suitable fashion.
